Warren Weitzman was one of the world's first domain investors. Through ingenuity, fortitude, and ambition, he is now considered the master of domain investing. Warren was birthed in Omaha, Nebraska and was a student in both UCLA and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He accomplished his graduate work at American University in Washington, DC with masters degrees in psychology and criminal justice. As a counseling psychologist and licensed clinical, he specifically helped individuals and organizations achieve better levels of mental health and started rehabs for substance abuse.
Unfortunately, it became challenging to administer treatment services when insurance companies dropped coverage for mental health related claims in the early 1990's. At this point Warren Weitzman had to choose between continuing in mental health, or beginning a new career. He decided to work in a new industry, the internet. This was a risky move considering that not many people have even heard of the internet. But he saw potential in this field and started one of the nation's capitol’s first ISP's in Rockville, Maryland.
Weitzman became mesmerized by domain names. He started registering the names of his relatives and friends such as bob.com since they were available. He got to the point where he had registered hundreds of names, which included catchphrases and names of people. Although these domains were very valuable, he still gave away some to friends and families as gifts.
Warren now owns over ten thousand domain names in various languages and extensions. The ISP he established over ten years ago carries on as a hosting company an boutique ASP under the name IDC. Over the years, Weitzman has unreservedly supported many entrepreneurs in their efforts and is known as the grandfather of domain investing.
