Old dog (photographer) new tricks

Being a hobby photographer for almost fifty years, I loved nothing better than to go walking around the local countryside with my camera. When ill health made this impossible I thought that my photography would be confined to a few family snaps. How wrong I was. I am now taking more photographs than ever, not the kind of photos that I would have thought of taking a few years ago. There are many new and interesting challenges in the type of photographs that I am now taking, and I am able to use the skills that I have learned over many years. Skills that I thought I would never use again. What type of photographs am I now taking? They could be called still life. This is not an area of photography that I was interested in, but now it is proving interesting and challenging. More people see my work than ever before, and it has a purpose.
What I am now doing is photographing the products that appear on web sites. As more and more online shops appear, many are small companies that need special photographs of their products for their online shops. This is a growing market for photographers, just through word of mouth I have two sites that I work for. They are Agratech.co.uk which is an agricultural supply company. Their products range in size from nozzle filters, some of which are only 2or 3 mm in size, to Knapsack sprayers. In the future Tractor and quad bike sprayers will be added. The range of products is so variable, whit all its different shapes and sizes that it provide a constant challenge. The other company is Weddingwearshop.co.uk this is a new company selling as the title says wedding wear. There are still many new products to go on this site. At the moment lots of tiaras have been put on, as this is one of the main interests of the owner. It has taken a lot of thought and effort to photograph the tiaras, Still life photography was not my interest so it was quit a learning curve to photograph jewelery. There are a lot of problems with light, You cant use flash, and colours so delicate That its impossible to see them until they are on the monitor and enlarged. Despite any problems it is a great way to continue my hobby and learn new skills. If there are any old photographers who want to try something new, there are many small firms looking for you.
