Web designing is not an easy task for those who think it is tough; but it can be very interesting if you give it a thought. For example we all knows that 8-bit display will allow 256 colors on your computer but ever wondered why web browsers palette will display only 216 colors? And also what happens to those 40 colors which are left?
Well, interesting question! Answer to this is less informative than interesting. Although the browser allows those colors to fill in extra color’s blocks, the left out colors can actually smooth out other colors. As we have seen during web designing, it is always happening with gray pictures. In navigator 4.0 of Macintosh there is a bug and it is a stumbling block. It always prevents system colors from proper display. Though it is still a minor problem for many and most of them are not giving it a second thought.
Popular JPEG and Omnipresent GIF:
Which one is yours favorite? The graphics, be it whatever kind, you will ever see on internet are from single web graphic family of only 3 brothers. First is JPEG, 24-bit color information file format which is more popular because every kind of picture files will give best results when we save it in JPEG format. But as you would probably guess, JPEG is certainly not the big brother of the group; the big brother is omnipresent GIF, the most appropriate 256 pixel flat colors information. Third brother PNG has advantages of its own but it is still struggling for its place, popularity and support.
Low Resolution and web images:
Whether we like it or not, web graphics are made of very low resolution 72 ppi (pixel per inch) as their display screens have very low resolutions too, it kills the need of higher resolution pictures. So you should know that although, web site pictures have made what is web today, we all have love hate relationship with what is displayed on screen and why.
